Our services are covered by Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, workers compensation and many other insurance policies. Medicaid does not cover Occupational Therapy services. Our patients do have to purchase a small amount of compression supplies up front that may be used throughout the treatment program. In some cases insurances have reimbursed compression garments for the out-patient client.
Our program is not a permanent quick fix. It is designed to promote the return to a more normal state and to educate regarding self care ongoing. We teach self manual drainage techniques and encourage patients in developing a routine for a life time management self program.
Our treatment program for someone with edema consist of manual drainage techniques, moisturizing skin, skin care, wound care (as needed), compression wrapping techniques, an individualized designed remedial exercise program, and compression garments that fit the patients specific needs. There are so many choices in compression garments now and we assist the patient in choosing the most effective and appropriate garments for day and night wear. We also specialize in custom garments. During initial consultation we explain details regarding the importance of the treatment program, plan of care for their specific problem, involved risk that are pertinent, and outcomes we aspire to achieve. The ultimate end result is that the patient can become more independent and increase mobility in their daily living activities.
The goals are to reduce volume or fluid in the extremity, achieve independence with remedial exercise program, for the patient or caregiver to be independent with compression wrapping of the extremity, have good fitting day and night wear for the extremity, educate regarding self care, skin care, garment care, garment application, lifestyle management for the individuals condition as appropriate, and pain reduction in many cases
I look forward to helping you provide this highly effective treatment for your patients.
